The start of the endless farewells.
A surprise camping party was thrown by Christy (ultra sweet girlfriend) in honour of Ralf who will be moving to Peru & also to celebrate Mark's coming of age (30). The weeks of meticulous planning was at risk of being ruined when Mark (scout leader) led us (the welcoming comittee) to the wrong beach! Now we are talking about seasoned hikers here, and yet all of us ended up lost in a cab. You would think that with the current technology, and multiple emails, some of us would actually read the email...
Lower Cheung Sha beach is absolutely gorgeous. After weeks of horribly depressing weather, we finally had a peek of sun! Camping in Hong Kong as with everything else, was a totally different experience altogether! Heck, the tents were up when we got there, including mattresses, pillows and a/c (I do not joke!). Heck, after years of backpacking, I've stayed at hostels worse than this! This tent was heavenly!
Good company, great weather, sun, sea and sand (and of course alcohol) makes for great times. We managed some pretty professionally hilarious volleyball, barbeque inclusive of marshmallows (a must!) and of course shots and shots of tequila.
It was a bitter sweet party. I've always been bad at saying goodbye. I don't know who could ever be good at it. On the day I have to leave Hong Kong I am contemplating sneaking out of this country. Just to save everyone the misery of torrential outpour from yours truly (Look, this is coming from someone who has cried at Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo,..so don't say I didn't warn you!)
However as with life, there will always be a time that we need to say our farewells. Heck, at least I was lucky enough to meet them. Could have been worse...
So au revoir Ralf (Mr Hiker Extraordinaire) and good luck in your new phase of life. I am sure our paths will cross one of these days!
Mark, you're still stuck here, so there will still be plenty of weeks of torturing you on hikes! Happy Birthday American Mark! (You are finally catching up!)
