It's been a pretty eventful year.
From the ongoing consequential threats between North Korea and the US, the mass non bias killings reported in Syria, a tried attempt of violent takeover of Sabah by the Sulu Sultanate. Violence against women in India on the uprising (again). Witch-hunting rituals in Papua New Guinea. Even closer to home and on a smaller scale, the murders of parents by their children in Hong Kong usually with an accomplice in the form of a close friend.
Its all new news, but its also all old news. These big and small issues, they have happened before. Not in the same regions or in the same era, but they have. The reasons and reactions behind these are also somewhat similar. With a power struggle there is always violence not far behind. Worse still, there is always a victim, a losing side.
The world seems to be playing out like a boardgame. Are we losing our humanity? Is this what a so-called evolved mind represents?
And as I ponder on the miseries of mankind, I am pulled back to earth by miseries of my own. Grudgingly.
Back to work on my problematic thesis of a paper. The issues may be small in comparison, but the looming deadline in 3 months is bigger than a billion weapons of mass destruction piled together (well at least in my eyes, for now). This is at least one problem I can control. Something I can fix.
The worlds problems will just have to wait.
What happens if North Korea gets out of hand? Here are some scenarios
